small and crappy
Robbie and i surfed VFWs this morning for about an hour.. it was almost pitch-black darkness at 6:05 as we got started.. the days are getting shorter again.. The conditions were small with a slight bit of nothing coming through.. Robbie actually nabbed a few nice, long, slow rides all the way to the beach.. To be fair, there were actually a few sections to go around.. but they were very few and far between.. the wind was already blowing out of the SW, putting a little chop to the sea-surface.. The waves might have been better down between Sloat and 2nd-lot-Sloat as they were breaking closer to the beach.. but.. there really was no escaping the crappy conditions at OB this morning.. Santa Cruz seemed to be catching the South swell that's in the water right now.. i saw some impressive walls cruising into the Lane on the surfline cam.. if you're not working.. there is a 2ft low tide around noon that might hook you up down there??

is that why i'm always seeing guys down at 2nd Lot when the whole beach is empty..cause of the shorebreak style??

Silas and I cruised down to the beach after breakfast (excellent idea, btw, gracias!) and the wind was way down -- glassy, and little peaks here and there on the ebb tide. I hoofed it back there with my DB board (dinged my fish pretty bad in my excitement pulling it out again) and totally DOMINATED the peak closest to the cliff house. Which is to say, I didn't feel like competing with the considerable talent which had piled up on the better peaks 25 and 50 yds south. But a south is definitely still showing. Like, once ever 20 minutes a respectable set. Sick. Mostly quick lefts then kick out before eating it in the rocks or an occasional right closeout barrel. The rights really wedge up there into basically dry sand. Eventually the wind and then the tide after the switch began to kill it. Sooo, that's all. What luck. Who'd have thought. Et cetera. Peace.

yeah. scott.. that sloat area has been good recently because of the way the beach is a bit steeper (less beach).. the waves break closer to shore and have been a little more consistent and steep than the rest of the beach.
