improved? south showing?
It smelled of improvement this morning. After a heavy early morning downpour the winds abated and the sea surface became taut. Niceness correspondent Lerm informed that the south swell even looked to be showing, albeit inconsistent and lacking in oomph. A few takers braved the mediocre yet pleasurable conditions. The possibilities for wave riding remain high. Sorrowfully, i had to jettison into work early and missed the mellow summer friday-morn session.
first-hand accounts anyone?
SOo.. this weekend ought to be a zoo anywhere with southern exposure. It might be a perfect opportunity to voyage to your favorite little low-key south swell stash spot and hunker down for some long-period pleasantries? Maybe a few hours north.. maybe a few hours south? hmmm.. look at some maps, consider the wind, seek and ye shall find.
Right now is the only real moment. Past and future exist only as probable mental constructs. The grim reaper lurks around the corner. Societal machinations clammer to lock you into patterned grooves. You have total control of your destiny. You bear total responsibility for who you are. When in doubt, give. When in love, savour. When in pain, remember and empathize. Remember to listen. There was a little south out there this morning, not dominate but you could tell by the increase in angley little bowly sections. Definite longer period sets (mini) working.

as for slurf...i stood somewhere west of the Great Highway at 6:30 with my rose-colored glasses trying to find a sumptuous peak. i had almost convinced myself, when a buddy arrived on the scene and spun a compelling tale that had to do with a pancake point serving up glassy smooth flapjacks and bottomless coffee. i was won over by his tale and enjoyed a killah breaky sesh.

I failed to surf well after a couple of weeks off. surfers were way outnumbered by fisherman, does anybody know what is bringing 'em all out? I saw a sea lion chowing down on something but I couldn't tell what it was.

caught sharkbait on her morning dog walk as we were finishing up. Better than it never was. A few peeling waist high mushies. Better than a poke in the eye. Lots of vellellas.
Surfed for 90 minutes, got 2-3 waves that could be considered "rides" and about 50 other waves that could be considered "mush".
However, northwest wind is about to do its thing late this afternoon.
Almost forgot to say where I surfed.

OB: lunchie looks like micro peelers on the sand. Ankle to waist sporadically up and down the beach. Onshores not so bad, the sun is breaking through the drizzle. Conditions have been highly changeable today so who knows where it will be in 15 minutes? A few takers walking in and out all morning. Slow rides, lots of waiting... but at least that's a nice change from the usual unrelenting -scramble-for-your-life that is so predominant at this here beach. Have seen some south angles and even some juicier waves earlier this am around 9ish, but nothing steady or certain yet. Cheers,

...during the sping/summer the near-shore fish stocks rise so there's more to catch and, hence, more motivation to fish. i think it has to do with a combination of upwellings creating more nutrient water and seasonal cycles (e.g., salmon returning to the rivers and streams from which they came to spawn). that's one of the reasons why, in addition to increased fisherman density, we see more sea lions, etc. in the water during summer. the eatin's good and it's time to get fat for the winter! of course...the nutrients attract the small fish...the small fish attract the medium fish...the medium fish attract the sea lions...the sea lions attract you know who. that's the downside. well...in addition to lack of swell and those damn onshores! ; )

E, those are some *nice* shots you posted. I am glad you can recognize that VK is not just a bumbling surfer and that she has deeper aspirations..... Oh, wait.....
Anyway, I just came up with a plan so listen up! Since Blakestah is calling for a this big south swell to hit starting next Wednesday/Thursday, I have decided to be the sacrificial lamb on this one. Here is what is gonna happen: Along with my fellow explorer CK, we are going to head over to the islands in a few hours to "scout" the swell. We will be sampling the usual: the swell period, wave heights, consistancy, water temps., wahines, etc. Upon return, we will have a full book report to present. None of this clif-note shit. Nope. Full-on report including the tidal interaction and the swell angle vs. reef harnessing power.
We will present our findings next Thursday west of and land-mass, somewhere between 2nd lot Sloat and the Beach Chalet.
Winds permitting of course.

Seemed like more than the usual 1 or 2, I guess I was wondering if there is some special run going on right now. The food chain is cool as long as I'm allowed to remain a neutral observer. Nice thing was everyone spaced out on different peaks: one way crack o' dawn lb charger, me, two grems for like the first hour. missed about every ten to fifteen minute outside roller, but the numerous midsizers made up for it. Have to laugh when I can catch two tasty minisessions in one week, in the middle of spring onshore hell.
