Pacifica surfer Greg Gubser is raising money for the Diabetic Youth Foundation by doing a long distance paddle: on Tuesday, September 14th, he'll depart Old Sacramento at 7:00am on a never-before-attempted distance paddle to the Golden Gate Bridge. It will take 2 days to complete (approximately 72 miles), and there will be a reception party at Station Golden Gate, Sausalito, CA on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 15th. All funds raised from the paddle, will go directly to the DYF so they can continue helping families affected by Diabetes.

Anybody have a room to share with a nice woman? A friend is looking for something temporary or permenant depending on the situation. She needs a quiet and clean kinda place.

Can't wait til Sunday morning when I wake up in front of the ocean and get to surf again.

room. It seems like a lot of people, but actually it never feels like

Who cares? I care. I spent countless hours volunteering in schools across the islands helping kids with the 3 R's. Many of these kids come over here after college/HS, whatever to work. They need decent english skills as pidgin just aint kool in the workplace. Not trying to bash the culture, but slang/ebonics/pidgin has it's place and time. It's also pretty lame to dumb yourself down when communicating with a local.

Steama--Are you being a little harsh? It sounds like your complaint is that there is too much culture in the US--some good (Jazz, dance forms), some questionable (Disneyland, midwestern jello-salad), some "junk" (Hooters, gansta' style anything). It's a big place we have here, so people seem to pick and choose what they identify with. Part of the beauty of an open society is that people can be exposed to a lot of "home grown" and imported cultural aspects and can choose to identify with them and even find like-minded people to hang with.

That said, I personally don't get the tribal tatoos on suburban guys in lowered pickup trucks or white kids throwing around ebonics. But, hey...what do I know.

Steama, on the fungus issue, the only things I have ever used are either O'Neills wetsuit conditioner/cleaner (can get it for like $5 at Sports Basement) or those little packets at the surf shops. I usually just let it soak for about 30-45 mins then rinse. Usually do it about once every 6 months at best. No fungi here.....

youre lucky. If a local actually talks to you, and you tell them where you live (since most people aren't FROM where they live, I'm not) you may get an ounce of respect. The locals who don't have girthy sticks up their asses actually give it up for Northern California surfers (not Southern California though). Yes, it sucks that some cultures are a bit far behind on the "stereotyping is wrong" but the truth is, there are still people in the water who are very, very racist. Some things will never change though.

Did you just watch some horror flick or something like the People Under the Stairs" Your story reminds me of my childhood where we would sneak into abandon buildings all the time. When we were real young it was to play haunted house. Someone would sneak ahead or we'd arrange for some older guy to dress wierd and hide someplace. I recall one time when this back fired and the older dude came running out screaming like a little b*&^*ch. Some troll was sqattin and chased him out with a machete...we all were so scared we called the cops. Sucks there were like 3 homeless dudes livin in there and our prank got them arrested...

At an older age we would sneak in to smoke weed and drink MD 20/20, Richards Wild Rose, Night Train and eventually 40z. Doing this in outside during Chicago winters was not appealing so we took the party inside. We always had girlies willing to join us as well. Later this habit of sneaking into buildings became hazardous as crack imerged and people were over dosing, starting fires and stabbing each other in these tenaments. I recall finding an associate frozen stiff in a building we partied at for like a month.

Well I love your scarry story..you had me there for a while and I still dont go into abandoned homes alone....scares me.

As for the slamanders I was told that SF is the only Metro area that has them. I use to catch a bunch of them in the mish..cute little fucks..wonder if they would make good fishing bait?............

What is scary? Me with some wild rose? naw..you bet I am. What was really scary was that the associate remained frozed for like a week with other people partying about him before 5-0 finnaly showed and found him. He also had stab wounds, burns and other stuff that were inflicted after his death.

While working up at Squaw during El Fatty Winter about 5 years back or so I worked with this one dude named J. He was a full on all american dude. Went to Yale, built pretty big, kinda annoying but for some reason he was a little slow with the speach. I found out later that after he had graduated from Yale he moved to the Islands. While driving in his jeep one day he flipped off the wrong dudes and they ended up pulling him from the jeep. Locals beat him up so bad he almost died, they left him in the middle of the road with a crushed skull. Brain damage, loss of hearing, slow speach and no job opps cause he lost the critical thinking skills needed.

Now I realize when you are flipping people off you are walking a thin line and you never know who is gonna come back and get you for it. But I couldn't imagine in my most pissed off, hell raging temper, of being able to hurt someone that bad. What is the deal with Violence on the islands? You would think it is compton out there.

Speaking of Liam Macnamera, I saw him kick some dudes ass at china walls once. He threw the guy over the cliff and he hit his leg on something and it broke. The guy was all pounded with a broken leg in the water. My friend went out and saved him, which is not easy if you know the setup.

Surf - Ok, I will give it up to those that said it is warm, fun, bowly, worth-it, sunny, hot, nuggety, uber fun, mellow, good, decent, etc....

So, it is not clean out there but it is fun. Also, I think boardshorts are coming out. Is it worth it for a $60 neo-jacket if you can surf in board shorts? It's gotta be right?

Another time in Hawaii my friend was renting a jet ski for tow in off of these locals who live in the jungle. My friend forgot to strap the jetski to the trailer on the way out and it fell onto the parking lot.

The dudes in the jungle sayd give me $5000 for new ski brah! My friend didn't have any money but his friend was local and grew up with the jungle dude and they made a deal to pay $5000 in a week.

Sooo, my friend had to come up with $5000 and he's this lifegard at Turtle Bay. So this celebrity dudes goes up to my lifeguard friend and says show me the hard core shit.

So my lifeguard friend takes this celebrity guy out on an innertube towed by a ski out at phantoms. The celebrity guy eats shit and gets hurt and almost drowns. The staff at Turtle bay hear about this and fire him.

He's now on the mainland, but no worries cuz the jungle guys only go to Vegas if anywhere, so he's fine.

it's worth it for trunks...i never made it out to try trunking it last weekend :(

NBC'S new Drama Hawaii is going to blow North Shore out of the water. This show is awesome!! Hawaii is well represented by "Hawaii". North Shore could take lessons. Next Monday, the shows will be head to head. Good luck North Shore, you're going to need it, Lol!

I really don't think it will make a difference!!
For one, Hawaii is an high action show where NS is more of a drama (soap opera type) therefore they target 2 different groups of people

Secondly, people can watch them both... NS is on at 8pm and Hawaii is on at 9pm so people don't have to choose between each of them!!

What I don't understand is if you hate NS sooo much, ewhy are you wasting your time on this website?? (This is a retorical question btw....no need to answer me back!!)

That is true, the shows are on two seperate times, and they are slating Wednesday night for Hawaii, they are just showing in one time on Monday Sept. 6. It is in the line up for Wednesday. It is a great show but as you said..2 completely different types of show. North Shore's fan base is getting stronger so I don't thinks they need to worry at all.
