windy. chilly.

Outlook seemed bleak
SW onshores whipping.
Sea-surface not horrible.
I opted out so don't have the first-hand knowledge.
Anyone?

Duckdives in warm water ain't so bad.
Wetsuit hoods actually do prevent ice-cream headache.
There will always be another wave.
Cultivate your style.
Improvement comes from hard work, determination.
That's a line from a Buckethead song.

Maybe reality is just a projection within each of our individual minds.
All existence just a fantasy created within our thinking selves.
How can you prove otherwise?
Brain in a vat.

ORrrrr.. maybe there are little dust-mite-sized surfers who float in corners of the air waiting for sets of sound waves to wrap around their favorite bend of land. Cylindrical sound barrels of Rock and Roll.

Listen'n to those hoots and cheers now.

Man, I haven't been out in so long. Pacifica maybe on a long board? Might be pretty fun this late morning.

Posted by: tripp at June 16, 2005 10:02 AM

E, sounds like you were watching The Matrix last night.

Where are those swells in Seth's pics? Maybe they're building like an army and preparing for attack in the fall. Should I get a bigger gun in preparation? Off season specials this time of year.

This time next Thursday, I'll be about 800 miles off the coast and 30,000 feet in the air heading west.

The beach looked like crap at 6:30. Passed. Played hoops. Not as much fun as surfing.

Posted by: Kaiser at June 16, 2005 10:22 AM

go home, stay home

Posted by: at June 16, 2005 10:28 AM

B-ball sounds fun, I've been on a disc golf trip lateley, but surfing is better.

hmm. nah, i don't think you missed anything; i believe some of us just like to pick on him. you know, what with the golfing, the pro/hawaiian worship, the generally superficial/shallow exterior, and, of course, the fact that he wears thongs on his face...

Although Ka**er's b**htu* may have been the call this morn, I opted for behind curtain number two, Monty. Drive south to shielded spot to surf mushy two footers. Caught about a dozen waves in 40 minutes, and headed on back. Its all good, more swell coming, hope winds stay down.

Tsunami info from Marcus Sanders at Surfline Experts are concerned because this happened in the Cascadia Subduction Zone, a faultline area that runs from off Mendocino up to Vancouver Island," Jose said. "And this zone has the potential to generate a 9.0 thrust earthquake, similar to what we saw in Sumatra last year."

The last big tsunami to hit the West Coast, which happened as a result of the giant earthquake in Alaska in 1964, killed 11 people and created $8 million dollars of damage in Crescent City while approximately 10,000 people lined Ocean Beach, SF to see it come in. The West Coast & Alaska Tsunami Warning System (WC&ATWC) was established in Alaska in 1967 and as a result of the '64 earthquake and tsunamis.

Posted by: toneman at June 16, 2005 11:13 AM

got some fun waves in la jolla and baja the last few days. nothing too epic due to shitty morning fog winds but the afternoon near-glassoffs were pretty sick at the mexican 'bu with some solid south pulses and warm water.

Posted by: bbr at June 16, 2005 11:14 AM

10,000 people have no clue about the danger. Oh boy lets go watch!!! kooks lining the beach on their cellphones waiting to be washed away. What a story

Too bad that blogger names can be anonymous rather than registered. Talking trash without posting your identity is just spineless. I believe that "some of us" is just you.

Dennis hope you enjoy your trip next week. Are you going on a wave search?

Posted by: toneman at June 16, 2005 11:21 AM

for what it's worth Judith the body surfing geologist explained to me (most of which I didn't understand) that a tsunami could not happen her in SF but that north of Mendo and welll into Oregon there is an established Psunami evacuation route and a history of tsunamis. But then I wouldn't have guessed we'd have a winter storm in June.

I'm not a Geologist but I have slept in a Holiday Inn and I say we could get Tsunamied here in SF.

Winter storms rock my world.

Posted by: toneman at June 16, 2005 11:38 AM

The slope of the land in Sumatra and the Islands of the area are nothing compared to here, Cresent city which had 11 deaths in 63' had all it's damage in the flat lands by the harbor. The hughest point in the Maldives is 6 feet. An 8 foot Tsunami is only going to effect low lying areas, and barley make it over the dunes. I'm no geologist but but I have a name, sort of.

It's my birthday today, but no waves for me. I hope tomorrow is better.

J, is the shindig still on for this Saturday or will the giant junky swell force a reschedule?

Posted by: steve-o at June 16, 2005 11:47 AM

toneman: Week 1 - I will definately be hunting down the waves of the Rising Sun. Friendly and I are hopefully going to meet for at least one surf session in Japan. I'm hoping to get three days in the water there.

Week 2 - I'll be staying in Maalaea Bay in Maui. It'll be almost all about the waves. 3to5 gave me some good insight on the area that will be helpful for my first trip there. (Reminder to Blakestah - last month I put in an order for a good south swell for that week, ok?)

I made a suggestion to the Emergency Alert group downtown. I would have preferred to make a decision myself as to the severity of the tsunami warning. I live on the Great Highway and during the "alert" I was having dinner near the beach. I knew nothing til the next day. So, my suggestion was provide a minute or two of pulsing sound for a valid threat such as the recent earthquake, and slid non-stop sound for a known tsunami. Is that too much to ask?

Posted by: Dennis at June 16, 2005 11:47 AM

SHRED!!

Posted by: e at June 16, 2005 11:47 AM

Surf was better than it appeared, if you have no expectations. Pretty wretched, turned out to be just Poor instead. Gutless w/waist high sets, similiar sesh [ sound like ] to Blakestah. About a dozen little drops n' rides in an hour at an unprotected spot. No surfers, only one seal, 2000 fish hooks, and 2 cruising Coast Guard copters wondering who was that gonzo trying to pump a longboard for speed in the middle of the beach. Not too cold, breezy, silly fun.

Posted by: s.s. sharkbait at June 16, 2005 11:48 AM

Steve-O ...Goon Squad is still ON, it's turned out to be the best day for the most people. If conditions are too utterly ridiculous
[ 23 ft at 11 sec? ] it might be more of an eat/meet/lie about great waves, and we'll reschedule another bash for more 'surfing' later in July. Might do it anyway, now that we have names the set-up is easy.

Good point Dennis. I wasn't worried about a tsunami, but it's nice to be informed and make a choice. Got some concerned phone calls; " I know the warning is off but will you please leave your house, like, right now! "

Posted by: s.s. sharkbait at June 16, 2005 11:58 AM

SS - Nobody called me. Everybody else got a call. I guess nobody cares whether I live or die :(

Posted by: Dennis at June 16, 2005 12:06 PM

Offshores at the Adnil mid-morning, grooming the ripples nicely. Fairly well-defined peaks, so it was tricky to catch waves with the crowd of longboarders in your back pocket. Kinda pushless, but there were some shapely ones to supply a turn or two. Cold.

Posted by: kloo at June 16, 2005 12:11 PM

On Tsunami Tuesday a dear old friend, who lives alone and spends way too much time by himself, called totally freaked out. He wanted to know if he had really seen a tsunami warning on t.v. or had the isolation finally gotten to him, causing him to hallucinate. I assured him that we had seen the warnings too and that he probably had nothing to worry about. Just the same, my wife and I invited him up to slightly higher ground to spend the evening with us. He declined, but I kept him on the line until he calmed down. I thought he was gonna be o.k. - but then he started babbling about how he was glad he called because he couldn't discount the fact that he may have had been having an apocalyptic vision of future events and wanted to be sure to warn us. I don't know man, I worry about this guy.

Punany - The female reproductive organ. Slag meaning pussy. Noramlly a very good pussy. used in other words such as Punany Fanny.
The punany was great, we went at it for hours.

Speaking of Alice Cooper...I saw the movie Rock School the other night. Anyone else seen this film? Same idea as School of Rock...but a real school with real kids and a crazy teacher playing a lot of Zappa songs. One of the kids, a 12 yr old, shreds on guitar. Very entertaining, check it out.

Have fun Mexi.
