Ohhhhh it was nice this weekend. I scored with another buddy who "found" a place recently. We were only ones out sun-mon for an hour after the sunrise. Long, mellow, no drop-in rides on this little south. Right around the corner from some crowded waves. Ahhh, explore. Like 3to5 said "Score and keep it quiet"

you didn't miss anything while you were gone. no waves for me this weekend, but did have a blast bombing hills yesterday on my bike.

Scored fun waves this weekend, broke my toe, and scored more fun waves. Duct tape fixes everything. Monday was a day of rest.

Whole Lotta Love was absolutely incredible when first released. Nobody played anything that sounded like it. That song was made for sex on acid.

Glad to surf an empty OB Sunday morning where the only other guy out was from SoCal who surfed way better than I do. Somewhat happy on Monday when I saw the beach at the Taco Bell was not the cluster-f I expected on Labor Day. I was somewhat mortified to see the beach by the Outrigger was packed.

Some kick ass wetsuit deals this past weekend...30% of in a bunch of places. I kept my visa in my pocket though....no charging for me. Gonna sqeeze another season from my beloved wetsuit, Dr. Leaky.

I finally got spooked by a local. This huuuge sea lion appeared out of the blue, followed a neighbor down along his little wave, disappeared, and then POP! 3 feet from me. Huffing,puffing, flaring his nostrils, and looking pissed off.... farking aggro sea lion.Then I saw that our little crew had drifted in front of a couple of fishermen. You've never seen anyone paddle against the current so fast. Vrrrrooom! Somehow I doubt those fishermen caught anything that day.

Come to think about it, most of LZ's music is so good that choosing a favorite is like, I dunno, difficult. All of the songs on LZ 1 and 2 are awesome. Oddly though, I always hated Stairway to Heaven. Hated Clapton's Layla too. Is it just me?

Monday arvo session. I was sitting on K's w/ my girl hanging out, enjoying the sun and then things just starting coming together wave-wise. I grabbed my board and had a 2 hour session. Tons of chest to head-high shapely waves. Lots of lefts. I was out earlier in the morning and there was nothing even close. Kind of strange, but I'm not complaining.

A great labor day for sure.

Had a great session at Sloat on Monday mid-morning. Sunny, peaky, reasonable size. Got 5 waves in 45 mins and still had enough time to go over the falls twice.........

OB was good yesterday, dont kid yourself.

I used to Mr. Cheapo's used record store in high school, and flip through the vinyl. I remember seeing the cover of "Houses of the Holy" and thinking I gotta buy this album. That snap crap and pop the worn-down needle made during the opening guitar of "Over The Hills and Far Away" was probably the only bright spot during my sophmore year. Kids these days with variable bitrate MP3s just don't appreciate the gritty of a vinyl album.

I've heard all the sea lions at OB are male, or at least non-breeding females, so I think they tend to be more fat and lazy than aggro. At least I'm not worried about getting between them and their pups.

I just booked a camp spot near Encinitas virtually on the beach for March 30, 31, and April 1, 2006. Bstah - any wave prediction for those days?

There was a pretty big typhoon (hurricane) that hit southern Japan last week. Those pics must be the result.

Funny, Japan doesn't get totally f__ed up when a cat 4 hits it. I think I'll transplant myself there someday.

I think I surfed the same peak as "g." who posted, above. It was good in there from about 5-7pm, caught plenty. Some shifty south peaks waffled in every now and again, offering up some overhead take-offs, and an occasional bowl section. Waves were a little gutless, but the combo of glassing waves (0-5pmh onshores), mellow crowd (mostly locals, but no aggros) and Classic Kollyfornia Sunset (tm) gave it a soulful, sparkly warmth you don't normally expect of OB on a summer evening.

fall surf seems to arrive later each year, perhaps its the anticipation....last week sept consistent but a few days scattered in between...havent surfed in 3 weeks and must surf am session dp suit and scramble

In season, something like 1000-1200 different people access per day on weekdays, about 20% less on weekends.

You might think that matters, but I really doubt it.

I think it is great to check with the "experts" and others who forecast. Realistically it is more exciting with no advance conditions report. Just show up see how it looks and then surf.
Face it people will always want to surf but how many really keep surfing?
Most of the spoiled rotten newbies may want to look back 20 + years and see that we were surfing just as often in the same exact conditions before the internet.Before that crowds were worse at some beaches when I started surfing about 40 years ago.AND we had to watch for lost boards pre leash. Good Luck holding on to that Hatchet fin.
