They're charging while you sleep. They're charging you right now!
Posted by: Mavs Charging Charger at September 23, 2005 10:21 AMThey're all out to fucking charge you until you can't be charged...you're unchargable, you're chargeless! They charge you after they charge you and before you can be charged to be charged. All I get is fucking charged and I'm charged to my charging limit!
They charge you once before they charge you twice, and than they charge you once more!
I am not powerless. The charging will stop.
I will not be defeated by a tow truck company! I will not be charged! I am the only one who can charge. I will not be defeated by a tow truck company!

Posted by: bagel at September 23, 2005 10:35 AMyou know what, to those of you saying things like "chickens come home to roost" about hurricane Rita you can go fuck yourself with that totally small-minded and selfish attitude (and no that's not a dick cheney quote, he's from Montana). there are millions of Texans that did not vote for Bush and vehemently and loudly protest his policies. many many of those will be affected in a major way by this natural disaster, as will you.
you sound like this asshole i met on a plane once telling me how california deserved the blackouts in 2000-2001. will you deserve it if a major quake comes and destroys your property? it's likely it will at some point so don't forget what you said about the hurricane.
bush is a carpetbagger from Maine posing as a Texan. i lived and surfed at OB/bay area for 7 years and i find it so funny and hypocritical that during that time i observed constant examples of how redneck the surf culture is. all this tranny bashing and threats of beatings...many of y'all sound just like the small-town folks that you are currently wishing destruction upon. you got your west coast attitude and bohemiam surfer style all down pat but it's the same low behavior you find so abhorrent in the midwestern/southerner.
yeah i'm overracting to a couple off-hand comments but we're down here staring this fucking thing in the face and i don't appreciate your bullshit sentiments about how we deserve it.

mk1202...Its called myopia. Surfers are as myopic as any pathetic subculture in thier views. It should come to no ones surprise here that GW isnt really from anywhere unless you can call the test tube or the lab he was concieved in a home. Just consider, if you were the CEO of a evil multinational corporation you would be very happy with GW because he is doing exactly what you told him to do. Sit Ubu sit, good dog.
And if you were the head of an evil corporation and still a surfer(possible?) then you would be on a boat trip in the Caroline Islands of Micronesia with a harem of supermodels cheering you on as you dropped into yet another blue empty barrel as you contemplated a steak or lobster for dinner.
Looking good Billy Ray. Feeling good Lewis.
Posted by: Third Eye Blind at September 23, 2005 11:14 AMCheney is a Texan. At least, he lived there for years and years before wherever Bush makes him hide in Washington. He had to re-establish residency in Wyoming before he ran for Veep - the constitution states clearly the president and Veep cannot come from the same state.
That aside, Cheney is a dyed in the wool Carlyle Group Texan oil man.
mk1201, get out of dodge, the fan and the crap are about to meet.

Sometimes I dig my hands into the sandbar and try to HOLD ON to my sea-floor position while the ground swell freight train rumbles by overhead. Makes the spine undulate, rubbery. I smile a toothy smile then, and let the plankton strain through my teeth. It's hard to find a good place to release a primal scream in the city, so I do this instead. The "NY" pizza on mission is Arnelli between 16th and 17th, which passes as the kinda pizza you find in the Penn Station Sabarro. Only consumed by drunkards and tourists.
Much better is to take advantage of the "only in SF foods" such as the Indian Pizza available from Zante on Mission @ Cortland, or Golden Gate on Judah @ 45th. Best post-surf food is fresh fruit from Noriega Produce w/ coffee from Sea Biscuit. Best pre-dp beer is Flanahan's with the taxi drivers who just got off night shift.

Posted by: at September 23, 2005 02:02 PMi was listening to the radio yesterday and this old indian wiseman was speaking about the impact the human footprint is having on the world. he related how the mayans believed that as the mississipi emptied into the gulf of mexico, it was the center, or belly, of mother nature in this hemisphere, and was seen as the 'provider' for thousands of people in that area. so for the past few centuries, people have been taking the offerings of the river but have not been giving anything of value in return. thus, this man believed that this selfish, narrow-minded behavior was causing mother nature to bring in these devastating storms and hopefully alert people to the destruction their lifestyle has caused....
everyone should agree that no one deserves to suffer through these types of calamities. but this guy had some fantastic insights about modern life that we could all learn from.

I asked him why the salmon had not run yet and why they were so late in running this season. I had been told by many non-Indian fisherman that the water was too warm and that there were currents that were keeping the fish from native streams and rivers, one guy even told me that it was because of bacteria in the water from a red tide almost a thousand miles away. The Native dude took a moment to think than looked me in the eyes and said, "They aren't running because they don't want to yet"

Local children joined the adult crowd in gawking at the contestants as the emcee shouted: "Do you want them to strip?"
A local woman who called herself "Melinda" doffed her pants and exposed her thong underwear, for which she won the 2,500-peso cash prize and a case of San Miguel Beer.

This author's novel "The Orchid Thief" was the basis for the movie, "Adaptation." Her woman's view of surfing in Hawaii should balance out some of the aggro testorone in here.

Posted by: acctnut at September 23, 2005 09:40 PMRZA, how do you know that? Smells like bullshit to me. Even if he did, stupid bitches in L.A. deserve it. L.A. is a cesspool of humanity descending in a vicious cycle of fucking over each other, and fucking each other into becoming poisonous, toxic people. My guy friends from L.A., in L.A., are all dogs.
Posted by: MSG at September 24, 2005 12:20 AMScratch that. I stand corrected.
Posted by: MSG at September 24, 2005 12:45 AMI live in LA. I'm got some FUN long rights at a point this morning on the south that is still around. Only me and one other for the first hour. 4 others out later. All were cool heads. Couple dudes fishing off kayaks on the way outside. Good vibes. No dogs out there today.
There are lame people in every part of the country.
SUrf! Now work.
Posted by: Hb at September 24, 2005 09:31 AMAgreed MSG, American made clothing is good with me. I think all those sweatshop workers in Salvador and India would call the Fishers (GAP) asshole before anyone would the American Made American Apperal GUY
Posted by: mexi at September 24, 2005 09:34 AMnothing against american made clothing. i think it's a great concept that deserves more followers. i've always supported fair trade businesses. i even got some of their shirts.
i've just read/heard a lotta shit about that guy that seems questionable - at least for someone promoting that type of business model. but no one's shouting 'sweatshop!' here.
Posted by: rza at September 24, 2005 11:01 AMFounder and senior partner Dov Charney has been at the center of controversy over his fondness for sex in the workplace. In two separate sexual harassment lawsuits, writes Business Week, “two of the women accuse Charney of exposing himself to them. One claims he invited her to masturbate with him and that he ran business meetings at his Los Angeles home wearing close to nothing. Another says he asked her to hire young women with whom he could have sex, Asians preferred.”
Posted by: Andrew in Alameda at September 24, 2005 02:37 PMas if you guys wouldn't do the same as him if you could!
Posted by: luke thighwalker at September 24, 2005 03:08 PMI've looked at all of the American Apparel ads... UGH is all I could manage to say. I don't care if they're real models, whatever that means, but I do care that they are real -- real ugly. Only one of the models is what I would consider cute. I guess they all pass as being fuckable, but with enough beer, almost anything is fair game (thank God I recently quit drinking). Anyways, Dov Charney can have all those quirky Benetton looking chicks. I'll stick with my hand for the time being: less hassle, no pain. By the way, I don't condone sexual harassment. If it's true, they should hang him by the balls. My sister is going through a sexual harassment lawsuit with an unscrupulous airline pilot. It's pretty sad that corporations and the law still treat sexual harassment very lightly.
Anyways, the guitar festival is rocking so far! Adam del Monte is the new guitar king for the ages.
Posted by: MSG at September 24, 2005 03:58 PMWell I'll be damned Bstah. They left the Texas residency off Cheney's official biography. These guys never cease to amaze me.
