Goodbye to the shoulder to shoulder clamouring and posturing - lates to the break-ins you brought on with your surf forecasting; good riddance to having to feel the sting of the vibe. not mine not mine

Goodbye to Cali already gone bye bye. Dash the schwizler.

Posted by: friendly at November 17, 2005 10:44 AMPaddled out with the Bstah this am. Perfect day to remember OB by. As he said, all fun and no pain. His first wave was a looooooooooooong left. Hell, I thought he caught one wave and went home. A few minutes later I see what looks like a spec in the distance paddling toward me. Then as it approached I could see it was Bstah paddling back from the left that went on almost forever.
Adios Amigo.

Posted by: friend #1 at November 17, 2005 10:55 AMIf that in fact is Bob he really has hit a new low of self important carping. Whatever to Dave & his move, I hope that he is successful in his new whatever, just as I hope anyone making a change is successful. Perhaps this comes from personally making changes that weren't so successful and feeling the ensuing sting, perhaps this is human decency, I don't know. Get over yourself Bob.
As for the crowds, the break-ins, the whatever. Jesus, give it a rest. I have stayed away from this forum because of its retarded tenor of late. Obviously a good call. Bob wants to continue to surf OB and Ft. Point badly alone. Cool. People hate Dave's forecast and are glad to see him go. Great. Some crackhead is breaking into cars somewehere besides my neighborhood. Hooray for equal opportunity.
Let's step back; war, economic distress, major worldwide health issues. I'm going surfing! I am a lucky motherfucker. Seems like everyone at the beach (and I saw a lot of people Tuesday) is in the same boat. Either grow up or do something final about it. Until one of these complaining bastards believes enough in his complaint (it is never women, I'll bet) to kill or die for his "cause" get over it. And you know what, no one willever kill or die for this because all these complaints are ultimately stupid and baseless and at some level even the most intransegent complainers know this. YOU ARE GOING SURFING ASSHOLE.
See ya.

Posted by: goodmorning at November 17, 2005 11:03 AMIt really bugs me when the weather turns nice and common courtesy gets thrown out the window. Had a wonderful 1/2 session this am, then the joiners joined. I don't really have a problem with people paddling up to where you are sitting (even though there are peaks ALL up and down the beach), as long as they show common courtesy by following these steps - feel free to add to this list:
1) if paddling out to a beach that breaks for miles, don't paddle up and sit five feet away from a stranger, give the person AT-LEAST twenty or thirty feet of buffer - especially if there's nobody in sight for 100+ yards in either direction - he doesn't want to smell your breath or hear you huff and puff after the paddle out.
2) when the stranger starts paddling away from you, DON'T FOLLOW. There's a reason he's paddling away.
3) don't paddle around the outside of somebody who's already sitting at a peak.
4) If you paddle around somebody (see #3), at least keep going past the person and get out of effective range - don't park your ass directly outside of that person.
5) If you paddle around somebody (see #3), and you do paddle past grabbing a default pole-position, don't blow the drop on a perfect wall - actually... probably best to just get out of the water, because you clearly have no respect for others in the water.

Beautiful day, otherwise.

Posted by: lerm at November 17, 2005 11:27 AMI guess its common sentiment, then...definitely not a cut and paste. Sorry for brining up a subject that's already been discussed, but I thought it worthy...I guess I paddled up too close to friend #1 on this board. Sorry...I'll retreat.
Posted by: Q at November 17, 2005 11:29 AMQ - could you really smell his breath? gnarly.
it's a bummer when people paddle right up to you.
Usually when i start to feel the, "this guy is paddling into my space." i take some deep breaths, relax and wait 5 or 10 minutes and by then the proximity has usually shifted.
Some of the more grisled locals just start yelling obsenities at the top of their lungs to nobody in particular. that generally clears the area pretty well.

Too bad the winds have shifted onshore.

Posted by: at November 17, 2005 12:08 PMPollutica!!
Hey Q, you must have missed it, but I posted a similarly themed list on Thursday last week after a nearly identical experience. It's okay to reiterate some things, though. There are a lot of people who either have no regard for the personal space of others, or are just plain lazy. Hey, that guy just caught a wave! Instead of finding their own nearby, they poach your peak.
Posted by: I was grumpy at November 17, 2005 12:31 PMthat park looks awesome. being that it's the closest park to sf, i figure it'll be dominated by sf rippers. the lines seem nice and fast so any beginners are probably gonna get run over. i'm stoked that there are some deep bowls and some pool coping!! i see a couple lights, but does anyone know if it'll be lit at night?

Posted by: Garth at November 17, 2005 01:11 PMSweet picks! That park could do wonders for the talent in the parking lot across the street.
Q - nice post. Should be rules posted in the parking lot across the street from the skate park shown above. When those folks "graduate" from 1st grade, they can follow proper procedures.
Posted by: Kaiser at November 17, 2005 01:14 PMis it more difficult to huck an air over the coping in a skate park (like the pic above) or launch a successful air over the lip while surfing? I've never come close to either.. just curious.
Posted by: e at November 17, 2005 01:22 PMBest to Blakestah. Word to goodmorning.
Felt like I won the lotto this morning. Almost didn't go out, expecting total dumpy flatness. Easy paddle where it's almost always dreadful. Drifted around a 2 block area during a time when it shouldn't have been working at all. Didn't get many rides, lots of long lulls and unwittingly drifting past a peak or being too far inside. Just 5 or 6 of us spread out and marvelling at this incredible good fortune. Once in a while 2 or 3 would be paddling in and around the same peak, - they were sparse - but unlike Q's experience it was really mellow and everyone either had or gave tons of space. If you sat in the right place, the wave was all yours to ride or screw up. Took entire outside sneaker set direcly on head with nary a pounding. Still shaking my head at farking unexpected, awesome morning. Of course, due to karmic experience I don't expect that area to work for me for, oh, say 5 years.
Posted by: s.s. sharkbait at November 17, 2005 01:26 PMsharkbait you'll get your due soon enough. You're in for some good karma from the surf. You've earned it.
Posted by: at November 17, 2005 01:33 PMSorry to be Bad News Bob, but it feels like it's just starting to go onshore, with a lot of north in it. Very light at the moment, just a ripple, so maybe it won't get any worse.

Posted by: mwsf at November 17, 2005 02:18 PMJeff Devine slide show at 111 Minna tonight, I'm sorry I'm going to miss that...
Posted by: Mexi at November 17, 2005 02:38 PMgrabbed airs on a skateboard are not that difficult...but as the bowl/ramp/age gets higher, so does the fear. with surfing there is not that much fear...and a much smaller chance of injury. ollies tend to take a lot more skill and are quite similar to airs on a surfboard. disregarding fear and consequences, i'd say it'd take a lot longer to teach a newbie to bust an air on a surfboard than it would on a skateboard, especially if the person never skated. but shit....both are tough!

I can see your points, it's just a little tired of a topic.
Perhaps we can lift the rules posted at some Aussie beaches and post them on the way to the breaks around here.

Posted by: e at November 17, 2005 03:15 PMBeach rules should be simple.
If your hot then go topless. If your not then don't. If you can surf really well then sit at the peak. If you can't surf really well then don't sit at the peak and stay out of the good surfers way..
ohh, I almost forgot-- When in Europe go topless whether your hot or not.
Pretty simple stuff really.
