We're having an expert from the SF PUC talk about the sewage system: how they prevent pollution, and what they're going to do in the future to improve upon the situation. These folks really want to hear the public's point of view, and the surfing community is deeply effected by these issues. Feel free to ask any random question you've ever wondered, for example: how long does it take for a piece of poo flushed in the Financial District take to end up in the lineup at Sloat? Should be interesting, oh, and there's a free wine tasting with a small donation at the door.

Sacto, don't waste any time. Get the lessons and get him in the water. I had my dude in the water with lessons at month 8. He was putting time in at Ala Moana (Park, not Bowls) to rack up "local" knowledge for later use.

As mellow as it was today, I got my cap ripped off after getting throttled by the lip. Never found it. Cold head.

Sacto- I hear there is a pool in HMB that has swim lessons for kids. I guess they keep the pool super warm (and hopefully highly chlorinated) so the kids stay warm and happy. I think it's called little belen or something like that- whatever "little whale" in french is.

our 3 year old took swimming lessons at RCH next to the Zoo until his brother was born. killer pool. it is mainly for disabled folks, but they have scheduled swim classes too.

On the Swim Lesson Tip.

Took the Girl to Janet Pomeroy Center near the Zoo in SF. This is a good starter, but is limited. Why? Because their format is for the parents to accompany their kids.

When I was a WSI back in the day (Water Safety Instructor for the Garden Grove Girls' Club 1982,83), the first step in teaching kids to swim, is get the parents out of the pool area.

My daughter did really well at Janet Pomeroy, then she plataued with a lot of attutide. We started at The Petite Baleen in San Mateo a couple weeks ago, and she is swimming to her teacher, jumping off the side, swimming down three feet to pick up stuff off the bottom, etc.

JAnet Pomeroy is heated and they have Deck heaters set up so it is very kid friendly even in the winter. But, there comes a time when you have to let go as a parent.

Yah, skip Lindy for the little guys. it is so polluted there.

JCC is killer, but aint cheap to be a member. tons of hotties there too (eye candy is a perk).

The JCC gives discounts to Jews, that seems wrong to me.

Wishing I would have surfed this AM, as it is starting to look blown.

Waking up at 4:30 to move into my three year old's bed, and try to sleep the next hour and a half with the squirmy worm, and a 7:00 start time at work meant I opted to pass on clean, but small conditions this morning.

JCC gives discounts to Jews, it is an unwritten rule, if your Jewish ask. They don't go public with it because they know that giving discounts based on religion is gainst the law. So it was a fun surf day today, but there were so many beginners and very average surfers in the water that it was downright dangerous at times. I can appreciate that everyone wants a good wave and that average surfers want to challenge themselves, but dammit, there were a lot of below average surfers paddling aggressively, then getting pitched, then being stuck inside and in the way. If your ability level can't keep up with the 2 footers, paddle down the beach and give everyone including yourself a break. Damn kooks.

I tore both my ACL's playing Soccer on non-grass surfaces many years ago. Two repairs, two failures, one artrhoscopic clean-up mission on my left (this knee is Miniscusless).

I had to gradually reduce the high risk activities I did like soccer and Ultimate Frisbee. It came down to was it worth risking my surfing for Ultimate, soccer, etc.

So, you can surf without ACL's.

Now, my style is way more about trim and smooth lines than radical cutbacks or airs. So that helps.

Longboarding the small stuff helps.
