Hiatus from the daily report

Loping pre-dawn set wave.
Energy collecting at the take-off spot.
The thing is humping and wedging.
Scratch over the ledge.
Scratch under the ledge.
Freefall into oblivion.

E's surf report is going to take a little break from the daily updates. There will be a few interviews and a feature story coming soon so check back now and again. Thanks to all the positive folk who made the daily blog fun as hell. Life is sometimes rough in cubeville and y'all made it much easier. In a month or two things might come back to normal. We'll see what happens.

If anyone has leads on webmaster or journalistic work please kick me an email at e@niceness.org. I'm curious as to what's out there.

Peace!

Looks like a job shake-up for E.

Good luck going forward.

In a semi-related topic, I was the one who spoke of working 80 hours in a two week period on a 8 hr a day schedule (with weekends off) or on a 9 hour day with every other Friday off (weekends off).

Both schedules have their advantage, and I was interested in what people would choose given their druthers. I enjoy surfing before work (and sometimes after); doing this is easier when one works an 8 hr day. But since I only surf before work consistantly 3 months of the year, maybe that extra day off would be better?

As for me "only working 8 (or possibly 9) hours day", well, what can I say? I've tried to make a life for me where work time is not maximized or extended or "its what you do to get noticed/get ahead". Has its drawbacks, but oh well.

There's the wonderful love of a beautiful maid,
And the love of a staunch true man,
And the love of a baby thats unafraid-
All have existed since time began.
But the most wonderful love, the love of all loves,
Even greater than the love for Mother,
Is the infinite, tenderest, passionate love
Of one dead drunk for another.

It's been a great and entertaining snapshot into the testostereone-driven mind-set of many surfers, as well as a connect to the deeper and nicer folk that really make it all worthwhile. Two Berkeley fags in a 2004 Ford 250 pull up to the Fort. Wheel right in like they own the freaking place. All piss and vinegar. Talking surf shit and actually trying to vibe da crew. And were laughing at his overweight fat ass and at his brand new Chuck Islands surfboard as he is about to meet Fort Point head on. After yelling at his female companion about not wanting her to paddle out he runs out to the tip about midway. Thrusts out his chest and jumps off the rock between the cove and the tip. What do you think happens? Right. He gets dragged all the way through and is mercilessly deposited akimbo into the corner. He is livid and hella embarrased. His Chuck Islands min-board is dinged if not completely thrashed. Adding insult to injury are his two flat tires. Stay away from the Fort.

Anyways, all good things must come to an end. Good luck, bro.

"If you do not surf now, then you obviously never did."

Correct. No ocean nearby. Somebody has to live elsewhere. I enjoy watching surfing, and want to experience as much as I can while in SF. One day I might try to learn, over here on the Atlantic Coast, but I am a busy camper.

Crap. Now I guess I have to get 'real' friends. And pay for internet porn. And my job is going to suck sooooooo much more. But thanks for the venue e, many good things have come about because of the blog despite a few negative losers. And your dedication to the dp, in all conditions, before work, is and always will be inspiring.

I guess the comments will continue on this post though. But without e's morning positivity, the crap will snowball into some pretty dense shit. Probably black hole quality dense shit. Or the spambots will get it. I'm guessing 666 comments before e comes back. Maybe a hopeful prediction but that's my call.

Oh and I've been looking for high paying jobs myself lately and the best I can come up with is there are a bunch in Dubai and in Iraq. Hate to name but I hear Lebanon goes off once or twice a year. DOH by some reports.

get off the sidelines gttim, life is short.

that comment was actually meant for those who 'used to surf', but now accept their non-surfing, spare-tire-at-life fates. those who now live vicariously via blogs and other digital means. reminiscing. there are many out there reading these very words.

Authentic - derives from Author - Authentic Lifestyle, authoring your life.

The women bathing in early march were Owning It.

The vibe is doing it. Authentic. The vibe can be shared. But the vibe is not here. If you are not bringing the vibe, then you are sucking the vibe.

anyone who ever REALLY surfed, would still say they do, no matter the duration since the last wave. even if it was only one wave.

but to never ride a wave?

that is forever.

not judging, I'm just sayin

keep it random e.
enjoyed the vibes you shared.

Posted by: PNW at March 14, 2006 05:39 PM

thanks e been a good ride - 4 plus years for me of work time diversion.

ps. got back from Mazatlan and I got the Tourista illness. Anyway the waves were fun if small. I surfed at the disco everyday since I was too lazy to go to playa bruja. for surf trips there has to be better PEACE AND OUT.

"get off the sidelines gttim, life is short."

Dude, I race Ironman, and shorter tris. I take actuarial exams. I date. I am a hownowner. I have dogs. I have travelled to CA before, and up to NY to race. I will probably race overseas next year. I have wanted to learn to surf, but have not had time. I will, but I can't do everything at once.

Thanks for you input. But telling people to get off the sidelines on the internet is pretty funny.

Anybody with with info for me on SF can reach me at gttimrocks (at) gmail (dot) com

Thanks again. Info from you guys has already help my trip.

Posted by: gttim at March 14, 2006 06:34 PM

Oh fuck off you wankers. E. Shut this beeautch down for a good long while. I may not be "in" with your crowd and you're not "in" with mine so. The thing about *niceness.org* was in reading about the waves and the beach and viewing pic's of her golden flaps. Things that should not be broadcast across the globe; thus attracting the thongs - woops wop throngs. Truth be told let's agree to disagree with the fact that niceness.org has spawned/ drawn 9 out of 50 regular non beach dolts into the water, and onto the beach. Folks that would have otherwise never driven let alone surfed this beaten down, long shore current, wave bombed out beach in the freaking first place. Like the earth (which, by the way "I rule" according to yon Cadaver) and around and around they came.
I personally won't miss visting this webiste. It was a huge time eating diversion. and waste. I did and said what I have done all with the intent of causing strife among these here ranks. I wasn't being a dick to hate you and all these dudes who at times are actually kinda funny... I feel like you're on old girlfriend with many heads. Thanks for breaking it off.

SAIL ON SOLAR WIND

"I cannot cause light; the most I can do is try to put myself in the path of it's beam. it is possible, in deep space, to sail on solar wind. Light, be it particle or wave, has force: you rig a giant sail and go. The secret of seeing is to sail on solar wind. Hone and spread your spirit till you yourself are a sail, whetted, translucent, broadside to the merest puff."
(Annie Dillard "Pilgrim at Tinker Creek")

Ardur spent the fall in NoCal. He ripped.

I really can't even remember the last time I surfed OB. Reminds me of a time I got dumped by a girl out of the blue and she asked me a few weeks later "Don't you remember the last time we had sex - that was nice wasn't it?"

Well no, I don't remember - I wasn't sitting there understanding that the 1237th time we had sex was any different than the 1236th, 569th or 125th - it just was. I didn't realize that day in Feb? was going to be the last time I sniffed a wave at the beach until late March maybe? I kind of feel robbed on both accounts.

Guys, I think it only fitting that e's blog be given a proper waterman's farewell. I'm organizing a paddleout, date and location will be purposely vague to ensure that only true ASL followers attend. The beach will first be smudged with sage to cleanse it of any negative energy and dog poop and a stripper from Mitchell Bros. who is also a Wiccan high priestess will preside over the ceremony. As even the ASP must occasionally make deals with the devil Jiu Jitsu Motto will provide security. For those that cannot attend there will be a live webcast. Commemorative souvenir artsy trucker hats by bagel and personally autographed footbags from e. For the irreparably bereaved, as a gesture of goodwill, KCLB has chartered a bus with non-stop service to Jersey City. Hope to see you all on it.

To Just Curious-

Yes, hustling Craigslist could indeed be dirty, but in my case and what I was recommending to E is just doing contractor computer gigs. It's amazing how much business is done in the Computer Services section of Craigslist. If you're good with HTML/Javascript/PHP/ASP/ASL or any combination of those (ok maybe not that last one), there's no reason to have a regular job. And when the surf's good just tell the clients you're booked.

3to5-

You won't believe this, but in 1969 my family lived in Bird Rock and my grommy friends and I surfed Windand'Sea and Big Rock every day. Got to meet Skip Frye when he shaped this very cool board for me. Fond memories.

Localism was actually worse in those days.

Hey, E. Why not just login once a week a dump the last 100 posts? Let the thing go.

Posted by: Bruce at March 17, 2006 07:25 PM

Bruce

In the spirit of "can't believe"...

Who was Skip's bro in law?

What was his wife's name?

And who was her sis's son (me)?

You should be able to answer at least the first question fo me to believe...

BVB and his family walk into a talent office.
The agent asks to see their act.
The family gets right into it.
BVB starts sucking his daughters cunt while she fingers the family dog up the ass. Mrs. BVB starts sucking his son's cock, while grandpa takes off his dirty dipers and wipes it on his cock to lube it up. Grandpa then procedes to stick his cock up BVD's ass. All the guys then have a circle jerk and spew on the floor. Grandpa drops the remains of his dirty diapers onto the floor and they all stir it up with their fingers.

BVB scoops up some of the shit/cum mixture with his fingers and procedes to draw a dirty sanchez moustache on each of his family members.

The agent then says "great, what do you call this act?".

"The aristrocrats". Says BVB.

What's with the budding BVB saintdom movement? On the one hand he exposes as many people as possible to surfing through his surf art curating, and on the other he bashes the exposure this blog gives surfing. Huh?

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against him putting on surf art shows, but there's a point in there somewhere. And lets face it, the guy's a dickhead, and he's probaby largely responsible for the demise or hiatus of one of my favorite websites.

And I've never met him, but by all accounts he's a dickhead in the water too, and that makes him an absolute piece of shit in my opinion.

Not that I necessarily think it's cool to bash someone anonymously on a blog as I'm doing now, but please, don't encourage the little fuck.

Now back to the postings of dirty hand towels and girls wearing bikinis with the price tags still on.

doc aka skip family guy

My dad was Provost of the USIU campus at Scripps and we lived on Linda Rosa Ave. off Forward Ave. in Bird Rock. I learned to surf at PB and then spent every waking hour (when not in school) surfing Big Rock, WindanSea, Blacks, Swamis, and other spots my cousin could drive us on a couple of bucks of gas. My dad was kind enough to buy me a custom board and I ordered one from a local place (PB Surf Shop?). Nervous as hell I went there and watched Skip shape this beautiful board. Wish I still had it. Only saw him surf once. Incredibly graceful on a big board. Cant answer the other questions, other than Donna should be Mayor. Do you know about that big desalinization plant they had on Point Loma in the 60s? I think it was disassembled and moved to Guantanamo Bay. Jeez Im getting old.

Without too much trouble one can picture some Ugh boot BVD wearing clod chipping away at the key's scratching his nads and head; terrible thoughts wash over him as he writes. His self hate and pent up surfer anger ( now that surf season is over he's a big fat "nobody" again) hurling forward and all he can see is a giant BVB logo looming on the horizon and he hates himself all the more. He contemplates: BVBVBVBVBVBVBVB over and over in his pea brained over sized head. His ruminations on surf culture and art go nowhere; he hasn't got the tools to handle such complicated matters so he lashes out and thinks he's being "creative " in writing anonomously to a blog where its day has come and gone...
What drives a person to think and write such things? What kind of mind-in-retrograde posts such pictures? These are the people that share our city with us; these are the people you see on the road, the snots and the clods of time lost in some sort of hellish whorl...

Sometimes I recall what might be refered to as my 'golden days'; my thoughts were innocent musings on occilations, territorial aggression, flaps, and corn. I seem to have lost my conscience. Now like so much hangover hurl in the shorebreak my thoughts swirl through the ether, bukowskiesque, they unconsciously reveal the true soul of the animals who created me from nothing.

We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command or faith a dictum. I am my own God. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.” - Charles Bukowski

Adios, amigos. This site was a wonderful retreat from the stress of work and home life. It was a chance to swap stories, photos, board designs, political opinions and totally boring discussions about localism. Ethan made our lives more interesting and fun, and we shared a moment in time. We owe him.

I had the great pleasure of meeting E although I’m not one of the OB locals. He is a thoughtful, sensitive and funny guy. Total niceness. If you are that kind of person, can you imagine the frustration when people post angry messages and potty photos on your web site?

Too bad. But I think this might be a larger issue with the internet. Total freedom and anonymity in the interest of freedom of speech? Where is the accountability?

Thanks, Ethan. It was fun but you don’t have to keep it up.
