joi de vivre
Doug had been married for 15 years.
He and his wife raised two healthy, strong, beautiful boys.
The last 5 years have been rough for their relationship.
They love each other... but certain intangibles compromised the bond between them.
After years of trying to keep it going, trying to reinforce the good points and patch the bad, it all ended in disaster.
Doug was supposed to leave his San Diego home for a NY business trip that night.
He drove to the airport but missed his flight.
Dejected, he returned home only to see a strange car in the driveway.
Walks into his house. up to the bedroom...
Opens to door to see the wife playing the giggle naked wrestling game with some "work friend" of hers.
Six months later Doug is in Northern Baja with a few friends.
The divorce finally settled. Joint custody. No real hard feelings.
The tortured despair slowly dissipating, Doug is finally regaining his confidence and joi de vivre.
Camping at this grubby campsite with a few of his old friends and two dogs.
Enjoying the pleasant exhaustion that only comes from a day surfing your brains out in the bright Baja sun.
Drinking some cervezas.
Sound of the crashing surf behind them.
Next thing they know this SUV with California plates pulls up next to their campsite.
Only a few cars are out there, so the scene is real tranquil and mellow.
Like some superbowl beer commercial, out of the SUV pours 5 super hot, scantily clad surfer girls who literally whoop and yell with excitement.
"Whooo!! We made it!! oh yeah!!"
Doug and his friends are taken aback.
The driver of the SUV turns to Doug and asks, "Mind if we camp next to y'all? How are the waves"
"uuu.. no, we don't mind! not at all! Yeah.. ummm.. the waves are pretty fun!"
Sooo.. 20 minutes later all 5 of the girls are sitting around the fire with Doug and his boys... getting drunk.. talking story. yelling. laughing.
The girls actually are getting quite inebriated.
Two of them had been making eyes at Doug for the last hour.
Flirting. touching. Directing energy toward him.
Now they sit down on either side of him and start to blow into his ears from both sides.
"Hey!!.. ummm.. what the!"
The girls laugh and wink and then one of them licks Doug's cheek.
A big, wet lick.
Doug is nervous.
He hasn't kissed another women in almost 20 years.
Soon he's kissing both of them. Right out in front of the fire.
His bros would be hooting if they weren't occupied with the other ladies.
An hour later Doug and the two girls are in his tent.
Laughing, talking, touching, snuggling.

Believe me, I know, my chick called me out on it, then she went camping in Baja and got double-teamed in a tent by two married guys. says she still loves me though.

Posted by: cowardbot at April 12, 2006 10:48 AMContrary to popular belief in the West, Karma does not follow a linear timeline.
So, the 'Karmic reward' of the anonymous poster above for telling that heinous lie to his partner would be his cuckoldry.
Posted by: friend #1 at April 12, 2006 10:51 AMSometimes when a person is vex with you or think you've done some wrong to them, they'll say "Karma's gonna get you." But what if you messing with them is *their* karma coming back to get them, through you?
That, perhaps, is why some drop-ins never get repaid. Deeeeeeeeep thoughts.....
Posted by: KDV (karma delivery vehicle) at April 12, 2006 10:58 AMKarma is only between the people it's connected to. One cannot be a "karma messenger" per se as it would create a karmic fate between you and the victim of your alleged karmic payback. This is understood as the circle of naan.

Posted by: astro at April 12, 2006 11:22 AMcheaters never win...
Rama KarmaBot, I see, but in some instances, why can't a person be the vessel for karma discharging into another person? Why do you think we even get to choose whether it does or doesn't happen that way?
Some people who say "karma's gonna get you" are really saying "I wish *I* could get you but I don't have the resources, so I'm going to make up something spooky and nebulous about 'what comes around goes around' so that I can attack you on some divine level and feel better and less weak about this situation."
Posted by: KDV (karma delivery vehicle) at April 12, 2006 11:25 AMNope, I am not 'Wise Lip Smacker Guy'. That was a good one though!
I must say that the Wise reports have gotten more accurate over the past year. I used to call that number when I had just surfed really good OB to see what lip-smacker would say, and it was usually "uhhh, its OK out here, not all that great... but we are having a sale on funshapes and other gear". classic.
I think they have started to learn that when you dont lie, you get more business, which means more money. Duh. cool guy old-school OB attitude is waning at Wise. vague isnt vogue for the 'hardcore' locals anymore.
Posted by: The Giggler at April 12, 2006 11:27 AMA sort-of personal sense of accountability must be established. Cannot use karma to serve as the means to a personal end.
Posted by: Ancient Jetties at April 12, 2006 11:27 AMe, in the story, regarding the chicks that doubled up on that guy in the tent, did they have tramp stamps by chance?

Posted by: KCLG's at April 12, 2006 11:29 AMI just got the "lip-smacker" Wise reference. I like his reports, he sounds like one of the younger guys there.
BTW Wise rarely, if ever, lies about the surf. They usually call it under actual size, if anything, and they always seem to fess up to any slop or mediocrity in the wave quality. I'm not trying to plug Wise, I don't know them or work there, but I think they do a good job.
Posted by: Ancient Jetties at April 12, 2006 11:36 AMnice story e, esp for a rushed one before a meeting.
I also used to phone wise after an epic session to hear him say something like 'totally unsurfable at the beach today' or 'completely blown out'.
I used to wonder if I was calling another wise shop on another beach. Used to crack me up.
In all fairness I supposed it's hard to keep your spirits up having to drone on the answer phone every few hours. he probably just glances at horizon and then makes something up.

Posted by: fanboy critic at April 12, 2006 01:21 PMCosmo - I'm afraid I'm going to have to take issue with your assertion on the size and location of tramp stamp.
Quoting wikipedia:
Tattoos can have additional negative associations for women; "tramp stamp" and other similarly derogatory slang phrases are sometimes used to describe a tattoo on a woman's lower back.
Quoting the urban dictionary:
(tramp stamp, n) - a tattoo on the boundary between the lower back and butt of a female.
I think the fundamental difference could probably be explained by the fact that the 'tramp stamp' is meant to be visible with certain everyday attire, whilst a small tattoo on the inside or front of the bikini line is less likely to be viewed.
Therefore the visible tattoo in that provocative area is a clear sign / mark of TRAMP!

Posted by: at April 12, 2006 02:22 PMWhen I lived in SC, I had this sweet night with two chicks. One of them is now my wife, but back then it was the only about a week or three into our relationship. The other girl was a relationship that was just sort of ending. Anyway, I came home, and they were both over, sitting on the couch, talking with one of my roommates. After a while they asked if I wanted to go out for a drink, but I said no, cause' I had some physics homework to do. So they go out together, have a few drinks, and come back after an hour or so. They come into my room, "giggling", seriously e, you nailed it, that's exactly what they do.
The giggles quickly turned into making out with each other. I wasted no time, I put down Griffiths and my mechanical pencil, stood up, and got involved with a three way kiss. Next thing you know, it was full-on threeway - best night of my life. Hittin' it from behind, while the one I'm in is eating the other out, bent over her back, kissing the one getting eaten. Oh my gawd! It was fucking awesome!!

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am the first Son of His Royal Majesty Highness S.R.P Onyeka, the traditional ruler of Eleme province in the Oil rich area of Rivers state in Nigeria. I am making this contact to you in respect of the large sum of money, which I inherited from my late father. This money was accumulated from royalties paid to my father as compensation by the Oil firms located in our area as a result of oil presence in our land, which hampers Agriculture which is our main source of livelihood.
Unfortunately my father died from protracted diabetes. But before my father's death he called my attention and informed me
that he lodged some funds with a security firm abroad with an open beneficiary. The lodgment security code number was also revealed to me.And after his death I thought it wise to contact a reliable business partner abroad that will assist me in investing the money in a lucrative business as a result of Economic instability in Nigeria. So this is the major reason why I am contacting you to claim this money from the security
firm to your country for investment purpose.
Another vital factor is that, due to my Political involvement and activities, and in order not to break the Political Code of Conduct Bureau,I do not want anybody here to know that I inherited such a huge amount of money to avoid being probed by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission.(ICPC) So I will like you to be the ultimate beneficiary,so that the funds can be released to you from the Security Company. I had intimated the security firm personnel that the beneficiary of the fund is my late Father's Foreign Partner whose particulars will be forwarded to the firm when due. But I will guide you accordingly.
And as soon as the funds reach you, I will come over to meet you in person,so that we can discuss physically on investment potentials. And based on this assistance I have decided to give you 20% of the total amount, 10% will be for charity homes abroad and for expenses which may arise during the transaction, and the remaining 70% you will assist me in investing it in your country on any lucrative business.I wish to let you know that this money is not Government money nor is it drug money and it is not money from arms deals. Please kindly maintain a
high degree of confidentiality on this matter. And I hope this will be the beginning of a prosperous relationship between us.I look forward to a wonderful, healthy business relationship with you.please contact me via this email address:onyeka_alex1@latinmail.com

Posted by: Hb at April 12, 2006 10:33 PM3to5, our tax system sucks more if you make less. It is not really the middle class getting hit.
As you make more and more, you get taxed less and less, It is the American way.
Citizens for Tax Justice has a lot on it. They add up sales, property, and income tax, and show that, as a fraction of income, the poor pay twice as much as the rich.
If you're just getting on about income taxes (probable given today is the 13th), you need to buy a house and get a nice write-off.
for people who don't understand.....
Sales taxes are regressive, because people who make less spend more, as a fraction of their income, on almost everything. They need to go.
Property taxes are ALSO regressive. You may think, well, poor people don't own houses. Not in SF, but in many parts of California they do. And, just like sales taxes, home values are larger, as a fraction of income, for poorer people. Property taxes are hugely regressive, they have to go.
Poor people are taxed for social security, and also for income. Rich people make a lot of earnings from stock appreciation. It is not taxed for social security, so they pay half as much tax on it. Then, the deduction system hits the poor guy too...people who write off business losses, and mortgage interest, and other stuff, all richer folks, and it reduces their tax load substantially. Poor guy takes standard deduction.
The whole system is focked. Should totally scrap it, and tax everyone on income, with all income considered equally. Scrap property and sales taxes, and do it all based on income.
That will never happen though, because poor people would pay 30-40% less taxes, and rich people would pay twice as much...and rich people give money to politicians to rig the system to benefit them....the Republican party motto is "the cure for all fiscal troubles is a tax cut for the rich".
Surplus? Tax cut for the rich.
Deficit? Tax cut for the rich.
Inflationary threat? Tax cut for the rich.
Recession threat? Tax cut for the rich.
Over time, these all add up, and the rich are not nearly paying their fair share, and most of them know it and are willing to pay....
Posted by: at April 13, 2006 06:11 AMThe bush corporation global hostile takeover plan is ALL ABOUT RICH PEOPLE. What happened in Louisiana is a clear example. Low life high profile thieves like Tom DeLay, the Enron criminals, etc will always be just fine. The only difference between the corrupt slimebags lining their pockets who run this country and the crook despots who work small African or Latin countries is the sizes of the takes.
Posted by: why else at a time like this would BushCorp insist on making tax cuts to the rich permanent? at April 13, 2006 09:39 AMAnon, thanks. I'm quite aware of the situation. Just pissed about it.
Posted by: 3to5setsof7 at April 13, 2006 09:47 AMI'm in complete support a flat tax system. Sadly only uber conservative Steve Forbes is in favor of it.
OMG! tax discussions are so interesting.
Posted by: hari kari at April 13, 2006 10:07 AMBULLSHIT on the "make more/get taxed less" propaganda.
I made more this year, and hit a HIGHER tax bracket and had to pay MUCH more. so, your anti-bush propaganda/theory is not really a fact.
I'm all for a FLAT TAX system, btw. our system sucks, but to say that you pay less if you make more is utter bullshiester.
if i made less than $40k, i'd pay nothing in taxes. if i was an illegal alien, i'd pay no taxes either (but still get free education, health care, and a driver's license)
3x5, try living in any other country and let me know how you dislike US tax policy after a couple years. you might get "free health care" in some other countries, but you'll be paying 60% taxes. and NO write off for interest on a mortgage in other countries.
We have it SO GOOD here. good luck!
Posted by: Bob Kelso at April 13, 2006 10:37 AMhey bob, you have to hook me up with that free health care the illegals are getting. i am paying through the nose for crappy health care now i had no idea there was a free alternative. oh, and also free education. how could i have missed that, cause i'm still paying off loans from that high priced education that qualifies me for the all the best mediocore jobs.

Posted by: sucker at April 13, 2006 10:54 AMI paid about the same in taxes in the UK / USA (from the UK live in the USA) - and you get free health care, decent public transport etc... in the uk for your money.
A huge amount of US tax payers cash is pissed up the wall here (but you already knew that). Can anyone say half a trillion dollars for an illegal war?!
Mind you gas is upto 8 bucks a gallon in the UK so you can always complain about that.

I've hired illegal aliens and you know what? They get fake SS numbers and when they work - income tax, social security, etc. is deducted from their paychecks! And then we pay payroll tax on them as well. And they never collect from SS so we get more SS benefits! And you think illegals don'y buy cars, cans of coke, gasoline? Ever hear of sales tax? And then they pay rent on some slum, so some slumlord can finance his mortgage and property tax!

That's one reason why if you deported the 11M or so illegals in this country the entire US economy would come crashing down like a house of cards. They are a MASSIVE engine of the economy.
Not to mention the fact that the hospitality, farming, fruit, construction etc... industries would be destroyed.
That's why it's such a tough issue...
Posted by: ankors at April 13, 2006 11:04 AMFree Health Care for Illegals 101-
1) an Illegal alien gets hurt/sick. he/she has not health insurance.
2) he/she goes to ER/Hospital.
3) he/she gets seen by doctor, xrays, MRI's, surgery, etc.
4) he/she has no insurance, he/she never pays
5) US Tax payers pay the bill -or- hospitals/health care providers raise rates to cover this x11 million people.
= FREE HEALTH CARE IN THE USA.
Massachussetts (sp?) just signed a landmark mandatory healthcare bill yesterday for just this reason.

Posted by: at April 13, 2006 12:29 PMDr Bob,
The comparison I am talking about didn't involve house, wife or kids or anything. I had the highest rate (for my income) in both countries. And it netted out about the same.
I was pretty surprised.
However you could make a somewhat valid statement that the UK has a much high sales tax (flat rate of 17.5%) so we pay some extra there.
I personally think that universal free healthcare is worth a few extra % tax. I will always happily pay that even if I use private healthcare (not uncommon in the UK). I guess I was brought up in a different culture but I think it is a universal responsibility of the state to look after it's people to at least that extent. (hospitals don't ask for a passport - they treat everyone the same)
If I was brought up in the USA I can see how I might have a different persective on this though.
No matter how much we debate it, if the people of the USA had wanted (or did want) free health care, a candidate would have run on that platform and it would be a done deal by now.
So it's hard to blame one party or the other - since if Clinton or Bush for that matter, tried to implement free healthcare they would be lynched from the white house flag pole quicker than you could say apple pie...
Posted by: ankors at April 13, 2006 12:48 PMwill someone do my taxes for me?
Posted by: baj at April 13, 2006 12:49 PMI am all for universal health care. It would be killer. but, you are correct that the majority of people DONT feel it is important enough to vote for (this can be blamed on the drug companies and "halliburtons", but if the people would vote it in, then it would be law, no excuses, no whining).
but, if one is to look at (and criticize) our tax system, then the whole tax system must be looked at, including write-offs that only exist in the USA. without these write-offs, (mortgage interest, child tax credits, etc.) our economy would crumble- a lot faster than it already is crumbling due to this fucked up bush administration.
Yep, that's right anon bill o'reilly and karl rove poster phag, I detest the bush administration and the right wingers and what they are doing to this country and our economy. just because i have a different view than the typical psuedo-lefty-anti-foxnews crew, doesnt mean i support bush or o'reilly. open your "open" minds.

I have a friend named Dustin (from America) who owns a scuba dive shop
in Cabo San Lucas. Dustin has been in Mexico for many years. I wonder
what he would say if I sent this to him?
I'm about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family and
I would like to ask you to assist me. I'm going to walk across the
border from the U.S. into Mexico and I need you make a few
arrangements. I know you can help with this.
I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration
quotas and laws. I'm sure Mexico will handle these things the same way
we do here. Would you please tell President Vicente Fox, that I'm on
my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:
1. Free medical care for my entire family.
2. English speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might
need whether I use them or not.
3. All government forms need to be printed in English.
4. I want my kids to be taught by English speaking teachers.
5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.
6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the
flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.
7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.
8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy
access to government services.
9. I do not plan to have any car insurance and won't make any effort
to learn local traffic laws.
10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo
from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police
officers speak English.
11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on
my car and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any
complaints or negative comments from the locals.
12. I would also like to have a job without paying any taxes, and
don't enforce any labor laws or tax laws.
13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and
never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place
on the economy. I know this is an easy request because you already
expect all these things for the people who come to the U.S. from
Mexico. I am sure that Pres. Fox won't mind returning the favor if you
ask him nicely.
Thank you so much for your kind help.
A U. S. Citizen

your argument is very passionate, but at the same time, without too much realistic thought.
my parents came here, legally, with visas proper visas. they do not think that we should let all these people in and provide for them with no questions asked.
talk to some legal immigrants that have come here lately, ask them if they think we should open all our borders as you suggest.

Posted by: 3to5setsof7 at April 13, 2006 03:00 PMIn my experience the Mexican and other immigrants work their asses off and complain little. I welcome them. Without them we'd be paying $5 for a head of lettuce. Their willingness to accept low wages subsidizes our standard of living. Whatever they suck off (dont get excited jizzy) in terms of education and welfare would be paid by us anyway in spades in the form of higher prices.
Posted by: why the fuck am I discussing politics on this blog? at April 13, 2006 03:01 PMBriana I don't know about welders but right now the trucking companies are fairly desperate for more drivers. Anyone capable of driving a truck and staying off meth can get multiple job offers right now. The lack of available drivers is driving up costs which filter through to everyone. The oil rig operating companies are also desperate for workers. These Mexican cats aren't stealing anyone's job.

I do not think we should felonize the situation, which has been proposed, and I guess I would support an in-country amnesty or an expanded (and retro-active) guest worker visa program if you were to solicit my 'realistic' thoughts on the matter. as was stated previosly, we are all derived from immigrants, their fight is our fight.
LEFTISTLIBERALS4LYFE!!!!
Posted by: KIX at April 13, 2006 03:09 PMIn the last decade, there has been a huge spike in immigration from Mexico and Central America. The reason, as quoted to me by my graduate student friends (who are studying Public policy, Latin American Studies, and the like), is largely due to NAFTA. NAFTA has allowed the subsidized U.S. agricultural industry to dump it's produce into the countries to our south, which has driven so many mexican farms out of business, that the peasants they used to employ have turned Northward to look for work.
Its sort of hilarious how people get all worked up, and start fretting about how Mexicans crossing our borders are going to ruin our economy. Give me a fucking break.

Posted by: jizzy at April 13, 2006 04:34 PMYeah, I guess rich guys do talk like that. But half my family are hard working Mexicans from Sacto. My grandma used to pick tomatoes in the fields. Hard work is part of our culture, we do it, for the most part, without complaint. You work, you live..it is part of life. Quite complaining that your job is being stolen, cause if you want to work, you can work...especially in this country.
Posted by: sactomex at April 13, 2006 04:37 PMThis county is becoming like other third world countries. The Rich and Poor. That is the problem Sir.
Posted by: at April 13, 2006 04:40 PMOh and by the way...I'm Mexican too!
And it is becomming that way because of "illegal" immigration. Yeah, whatever.
Posted by: sactomex at April 13, 2006 04:42 PMLet me correct that. I am pround to be a LEGAL American first!!! My parents happen to have be born in Mexico.

O.B. fucking sucked in the p.m. Atleast it was sunny and warm today, though. I did talk to a young cute girl at the showers. Too bad she lives all the way in Tahoe.
Posted by: at April 13, 2006 07:37 PMFuck it, let everyone in. All us who don't have shit can kick all the rich peoples asses and take their shit.
Posted by: at April 13, 2006 07:46 PMThere are real problems with illegal immigration. It should stop.
For example, the number of cases of rare diseases is going up, the illegals do not fall into our immunization system. They are bringing disease into America, and spreading it.
For example, 25% of all federal prison slots are taken by illegal immigrants, predominantly Mexicans. They are 3-4% of all people in the US, and 25% of the federal prison slots. State pens are no different.
Surely you cannot believe that the work done by these illegals more than outweighs the threats they pose in terms of violent crimes and public health? Or, that by changing the system we can have our cake and eat it too.
On public health, countries with socialized medicine spend 8-9% of their GDP on health care. In the US we spend 15% of our GDP on health care. Guess who has the better system? Not all socialized medicine programs are the same, but they all spend 8-9% of GDP on health care, roughly 60% of what we spend as a fraction of GDP. The US health care system SUCKS!
On taxes, it is very true that TOTAL TAX LOAD goes down with increases in earnings. You have to calculate the whole equation. Property, sales, and income taxes. This is expressed fractionally, the highest tax brackets AVERAGE half as much tax, per dollar earned, as the lowest tax brackets.
This is not just your April taxes, but also your car registration fee, your 8.5% sales tax in SF, your 2-3% property tax on your home, etc, etc. Add it all up. Read about it at Citizens for Tax Justice.
yeah, all mexicans are diseased, violent criminals.
rare diseases?
What?
what are your feelings on african americans anon? they make up a disproportionate percentage of our prison population as well.
Posted by: anon at April 13, 2006 08:24 PMRare diseases? You'd never want a case of the dreaded Sonoran chalupa-foot, and what about those outbreaks of enchiladacephalitis which sometimes sweep the Yucatan. A old mechanic of mine from Oaxaca once suffered from a case of cervesa.

That's a good one. Nobody gets free medical care in this country. Nobody. Not immigrant, not citizen, not rich and not poor.
If you want free medical care go to France or Italy. OK, it's not free, meaning your taxes pay for it, and sometimes it's not perfect, but it's more free than the US every will be.

Read the medical literature, just a little, to see how illegal immigration brings rare and deadly disease to America.
Tuberculosis is on the rise due to illegal immigration.
Trypanosomiasis is on the rise.
Polio was extinct in the USA (Salk made the vaccine), it is back now, thanks to illegal immigration.
Leprosy was eradicated in the US in the last 30 years, it is now back.
Dengue fever has re-appeared.
These are real medical issues. And, we need to treat them as such. They are a very real cost to illegal immigration of people who come from areas with worse health care systems.
http://www.jpands.org/vol10no1/cosman.pdf
Don't get me wrong on the topic of illegal immigration. I am not suggesting a course of action for Congress. But, I am pointing out unmistakably negative impacts when you consider the higher than average crime/violent crime rates of immigrants, their incarceration, and the disease that comes to America with them. These are things we desperately want immigration to control. In fact, they are a major reason we have legal immigration in the first place.
Now, you can't throw 11 million immigrants back to Mexico. Its impossible and won't work. But we have to face the very real problem of crimes committed by illegal immigrants, and the extraordinary burden they pose to our medical system.
Honestly I think they should all be offered citizenship with caveats for passing citizenship tests, work for some minimum period of time, back-paying of tax burdens, passing medical examinations that THEY PAY FOR, and a zero tolerance policy on felony crimes committed during their guest worker period.
Posted by: at April 14, 2006 08:21 AMIf you want to stop illegal immigration, there is one way that will shut it down instantly. You levy huge fines and jail time onto individuals and businesses that employ illegal aliens. Every time somebody is hired as an employee or contractor, the employer must get their SSN and verify it belongs to them. The jobs dry up, illegals quit coming. Many here already will go back. Wages will start to go back up to true market value. Less people will be exploited by big business. Finally we may see business calling for single payer healthcare for all citizens.
However the GOP, which controls all 3 branches of government, will never pass that law. Their buddies are making way to much money employing the cheap labor of exploited immigrants. Conservative and moderate Democrats are not going to ruch into that either.
I can appreciate everybody trying to make a living and have abetter life. We have lots of citizens who need work, however, and with the increasing drop out rates in school, we will have more.
Posted by: gttim at April 14, 2006 09:26 AMunemployment is at nearly historical lows.
There is a big problem, 11 million illegal immigrants are here, and we have no way to kick them all out, and doing that may cause more problems than the immigrants cause.
Really, we need a way out of this mess that leads to those 11 million having a chance at citizenship, and a heretoforward strict policy against employing illegals. And, immigration policy needs to be altered so that the work being done by these illegals can be done by legal immigrants on some type of working visas that can lead to citizenship if they are needed long enough, work enough, and don't commit crimes.
Posted by: at April 14, 2006 10:03 AM"unemployment is at nearly historical lows."
Actually not true. They just keep changing the way they count unemployment, and so many people have quit looking that they are no longer counted. You are right, there does need to be a transition. This could not happen overnight. It needs to happen, however. Then if we start investing some of the military budget into building Mexico into an economic power, instead of making Cheney and his buddies rich, Mexicans may be able to live well in their country.
